West Wind Predicts The Oscars

Feb 23, 2019

The Oscars have finally arrived and will look a little different this year. For the 2nd time in history, the show will go on without a host and will instead feature segments from various A-list celebrities.

While we don’t know exactly what to expect, what we do know is who we think will win in each category. To kick off the Oscars, we asked the GMs at our West Wind locations to make their predictions.

Last year was an incredible year for movies, which makes the biggest award an arms race. Our General Managers were spread across the board on Best Picture. Black Panther received the most votes with 3, but A Star Is Born and Roma have a huge shot at winning as well.

Rami Malek and Christian Bale, nominated for Best Lead Actor, have split victories in SAG and Golden Globe awards, so it will be interesting to see how the Academy voted. Rami Malek was an overwhelming favorite among our GMs, with Bradley Cooper securing one vote.

Our votes for Best Lead Actress were much more spread across the board. Yalitza Aparicio and Lady Gaga were both fantastic in their first starring roles, but will it be enough to take on Glenn Close and Melissa McCarthy? If Lady Gaga doesn’t win this award, she still has a chance for Best Original Song.

Our team voted similarly for Best Supporting Actor and Actress. Mahershala Ali was the overwhelming favorite actor, with the supporting actress race being a little more spread out.

Regardless of how they turn out, we had an amazing time putting our list together. Take a look at our predictions and let us know what you think.
